Areola Re-pigmentation can be a great option for clients who’d like to start over after breast cancer or who’d like to hide areola scarring.
It is a medical tattooing procedure, the final stage of breast reconstruction, and it is often considered by those with areola colour loss.
After the nipple reconstruction is completed, the tattooing process may begin, 6 – 12 weeks post-surgery.
The Areola’s appearance–a patch of skin around surrounding the nipple–plays a vital role in a man or woman’s self-image. That’s why, for many of our clients, Areola tattooing symbolises the end of a terrible journey, and now, they can move forward with their lives.
What is Areola Tattooing?
After mastectomy or reconstruction due to breast cancer or a medical condition, 3D Areola tattooing could be something to consider. It could help with the appearance of a woman’s anatomy to make them look as she prefers again and draws attention away from the scar caused by mastectomy and other imperfections.
Unlike other medical tattoos, areola tattoos tend to be very unique. The procedure or the number of sessions may differ depending on the scarring around the area and the condition of the skin.
Areola recolouring is not just for women who have had surgery. This procedure is also known to help people with loss of areola colour or who have small uneven areola.
It is an effective semi-permanent procedure that allows clients to feel more confident about their bodies.
The procedure takes about one hour and a half. We will ask you to apply an Emla numbing patch which can be purchased at the chemist one hour before the treatment.
On the day of the procedure, we will measure and draw the shape before we start. The colour will look bright for five days. The colour will settle by 40%.
All aftercare instructions will be given on the day. After one month, a perfection visit may be needed.
As long as you follow the aftercare instructions, the Areola tattoo should last for 2 to 3 years. If you’d like to maintain the colour, it’s best to have touch-ups within two years which we happily provide at a discounted rate.

Recovering from an Areola tattooing procedure doesn’t require a lot of time downtime. You may experience swelling right after the procedure, but it should go down after a couple of days.
You may also be surprised to see that the tattooed area is darker than you initially expected, but that’s a natural part of the procedure. It should lighten to your desired hue within a few days.
Like all tattooing procedures, you will need to follow specific aftercare steps.
- For sanitary reasons, you will need to cut the bandage within 24 hours.
- Apply the aftercare cream regularly after the treatment.
- Avoid picking at your tattoo once it scabs over. The scabs should heal and fall off after a few days.
- Avoid applying scented lotions or creams to the tattooed area.
- Avoid sleeping on your stomach.
- Avoid touching the tattooed area to minimise the risk of infection.
